The USC Center for Religion and Civic Culture (CRCC) is accepting applications for a full-time Research Associate position for a new four-year research initiative investigating the challenges facing Catholic Sisters in the United States and Africa.
The CRCC Research Associate will work with the principal investigator, Professor Donald Miller, in establishing baseline data and measuring changes in membership, leadership development, and resources in communities of Sisters in the US and Africa. The position is to begin September 2014 and is a one-year, fixed-term renewable appointment. The project will end March 31, 2018.
Candidates must have a PhD in the social scientific study of religion, with experience in quantitative and qualitative research methodologies. Knowledge of the Catholic tradition is useful, but not essential. Also, experience in developing survey instruments and analyzing questionnaire data is important, as is demonstrated experience in conducting in-depth interviews and field research.
Some international travel will be required for this position. Ability to understand and adapt to different cultural settings is essential. The successful candidate will be part of a larger team of scholars working on a variety of different research projects at the Center for Religion and Civic Culture. All Research Associates at CRCC are strongly encouraged to publish findings related to their specific research focus. Teaching is not an element of being a Research Associate.
